APOLLO, Pa. — An Armstrong County mother is facing charges after police said her 8-year-old child was found living in deplorable conditions.
Kiski Township police went to the home on Flat Rock Road at 6:45 p.m. Monday for a welfare check of the child.
While there, they found that there was no working toilet. They also found a cardboard box for a front door and garbage stacked in all the rooms so that the child was unable to sleep in her bed.
Numerous boxes and dirty clothes were seen around the residence, police said.
The child was released into the care of a relative, while the child’s mother, Mindy Smith, 44, was arrested.
Neighbors told Channel 11 that Smith and her 18-year old son were violent and busted down their own front door during a recent fight.
“There are always loud noises, fighting, cursing late at night and during the day sometimes,” a neighbor told Channel 11.
Smith is currently in the Armstrong County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.
