PITTSBURGH — There were 11,972 new positive cases of coronavirus across Pennsylvania, bringing the state’s total to 457,289.
As of Thursday, about 3.6% of the state’s population has tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
According to the Pa. Department of Health, there are currently 5,852 people hospitalized from COVID-19 -- 1,191 of those are in the ICU with severe cases.
There were also 248 new deaths reported on Thursday, bring the total to 12,010 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
In Allegheny County, there were 1,166 new COVID-19 cases and six new deaths reported Thursday.
According to the Allegheny County Health Department, 1,090 of the new cases are confirmed cases from 3,302 tests. The remaining 76 cases are probable cases.
New cases range in age from 2 months to 101 years, with a median age of 44 years. The dates of positive tests were from Nov. 23 to Dec. 9. Seventeen positive tests were more than a week old.
The six new deaths were three people in their 70s, two people in their 80s and one person in their 90s. They died between Nov. 18 and Dec 9. Five of the deaths were associated with long-term care facilities.
Since March 14, there have been 36,707 cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County residents, 2,392 hospitalizations and 625 deaths.
