WILKINSBURG — A neighbor dispute over a rug led to a shooting in Wilkinsburg Saturday night.

Gerald Olijuwon Daniels, 34, of Wilkinsburg, was charged with aggravated assault, multiple counts of recklessly endangering another person and firearms related charges after the incident in the 800 block of Coal Street shortly before 11 p.m. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.

Witnesses reported that a person was shooting at a vehicle in the 800 block of Coal Street, and a home in the 900 block was hit by gunfire. While officers were investigating the shots fired, a victim of a gunshot wound arrived at UPMC Mercy Hospital.

Police spoke with the victim who reported that he was shot during an apparent neighbor dispute, after stepping on a rug in the rear yard. The victim and his girlfriend were leaving the home and driving away when Daniels began shooting at the vehicle as it drove away, hitting the man, nearly hitting his girlfriend, and seriously endangering those in the next block, police said.

The man is in stable condition and suffered a single gunshot wound to the right shoulder.
