Neville Island roller skating rink looking ahead to January when patrons will be allowed back

NEVILLE ISLAND, Pa. — Starting at midnight Saturday, the Neville Roller Drome will officially close for three weeks. Although the venue will be completely empty, the owners said they are looking ahead to January and plan to stay in touch with customers on social media.

“I skate almost every session,” Izzi Park said.

When Park is on the rink, you can tell how much she loves to skate.

“I’ve been skating for five years,” she said.

“When you strap on your skates, you are part of a 72 year tradition. You are a part of our family. You are a part of the Pittsburgh skate family,” owner Jim Park said. “You take things like this away from skaters, people who exercise regularly, that’s a mental health issue.”

The owners said they plan to stay connected to their fans via social media, and they’re already looking forward to January.

“It may be something where we do something virtually or it may be where we spend the extra time to do a deep clean again and we reset everything so when we reopen in January that everything is pristine once again,” said owner Sophie Park.
