GREENSBURG, Pa. — A new attorney for the former Franklin Regional High School student serving 60 years in prison for a knife attack at school has filed a new appeal.
According to our partners at TribLive.com, the new attorney argued that Alex Hribal’s first lawyer “gave ineffective assistance” and failed to present “other meritorious issues at sentencing.”

Hribal, now 23, was 16 when he was arrested and charged for using two kitchen knives to cut and stab students and a security guard in a high school hallway in 2014. 21 people were injured, five students seriously.
His new attorney, Thomas Farrell, filed two documents on Thursday. One generally asked for a new trial. The other asked the judge for more time to review Hribal’s case file.
Hribal pleaded guilty in October 2017. He and his parents argued his actions were in response to being bullied by other students and mental illness.
