DONORA, Pa. — Almost six months after the shooting death of Nicholas Tarpley, Channel 11 is learning new details about the men police said are responsible.

Sydney McLean and Devell Christian were finally identified as the two men seen in surveillance video of the shooting. They stood before a judge Monday and were ordered to stand trial for killing the 28-year-old Tarpley.

“Our family is happy and it brings some type of closure but it still doesn’t take away the fact that he got taken from us for no reason,” said a Tarpley family member.

It was Feb. 24 around 5 p.m. when police said Tarpley was working in Anna Lee’s Convenience Store in Donora before he was gunned down. The District Attorney’s office did not release video from inside the store but said it showed Tarpley in the deli area when he was first shot in the back. Investigators said he twisted around to defend himself and was shot several more times.

Both McLean and Christian are being held without bond.
