PITTSBURGH — A new charter school is just days away from opening its doors here in Pittsburgh.
Tucked away at Penn Center Boulevard in Wilkins Township, LIFE MALE STEAM Academy officially welcomes 6th and 7th-grade male students on Sept. 8.
School officials are preparing for major growth following this inaugural year.
“Over a ten year period, the school will wrap up to a full K-12 academy, the only one in the country centered around STEM for boys,” said founder and president Dr. Darryl Canady.
The curriculum will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
Dr. Darryl Canady, founder and president, said the school’s mission is to prepare male scholars for college success and career readiness.

The school hopes to serve as a catalyst to increase the presence of African American males in the STEAM pipeline and lead them on a path to success.
“I know that education is the key to being able to change what’s going on in their lives,” said Dr. Darryl Canady.
Since it’s a charter school, LIFE MALE STEAM Academy is tuition-free and transportation is included.
If you’d like to enroll your child, spots are still available.
