PITTSBURGH — The Ray Avenue steps run through the city’s Brookline neighborhood, connecting Pioneer Avenue to West Liberty Avenue.
But now, the steps are damaged so bad that part of them have been closed; they are literally crumbling and caving in.
“It’s very hard to walk down. There are slabs missing. It should have been closed a long time ago,” said Michael Whitlock.
He lives right next to the steps and uses them to get to the bus stop.
“This is my road right there. Does that look like a road you want to travel?” he said.
“There’s been a leak there for over a year and it happened right after the city worked on something down there. And when my husband called to complain, they just said it was a spring,” said Janet McCloskey.
Getting around the steps takes almost three times as long to get to the bus stop.
Other steps in Brookline also need repair, including ones on Stetsone Street.
Channel 11 reached out to city officials about the condition of the steps. They have not yet responded.
