Pa. Fish and Boat Commission opens 2020 trout season despite COVID-19 outbreak

HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission opened the statewide 2020 trout season today despite the COVID-19 outbreak.

Officials made the decision after consulting with Gov. Tom Wolf’s office, the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Anglers who are properly licensed and youths can begin fishing today; however, all people and boaters must abide by social distancing guidelines.

Commission officials say everyone should limit travel by fishing close to home, cover their faces with masks or other cloth coverings and keep at least 6 feet away from others about the length of an arm with an outstretched fishing rod.

Officials also say you should only go fishing with members of your family living in the same household and don’t share your fishing gear with others.
