Patrons unhappy after bottle rules enforced at reopened Brentwood Pool

PITTSBURGH — As the temperatures continue to sizzle, Pittsburghers are looking for ways to cool down. Over the weekend, nearly 1,000 people flocked to the newly reopened Brentwood Pool, including Michele Kowalski.

“Everybody goes everywhere, they always have a water bottle so I think the water bottles should be OK,” she said.

“We would like to take water bottles in, but I didn’t know that was the rule so if that’s the rule then we’ll follow it and we’ll drink our water out here and just continue having fun at the pool,” said Lauren Ohodnicki.

Not everyone was so easygoing. People took to social media to voice their frustration over the policy.

Brentwood Parks and Recreation Director Jim Attanucci said the rule about no food or drinks near the pool has been around for decades. He said it goes back to safety, keeping things clean and stopping alcohol from being brought in.

“I do have a little one so, you know, that might be logistically tricky getting everybody out when they need a drink,” Ohodnicki said.

There are two water fountains inside near the gate. Outside the gate, there’s a concession stand and picnic tables set up for people who want to eat or drink.
