PITTSBURGH — Spring’s almost here. That means it's time to break out the construction cones.
On Monday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation released a list of the major road projects planned for 2018.
PennDOT plans to spend over $400 million rehabilitating, reconstruction and resurfacing 275 miles of highways and making bridge improvements this year in Western Pennsylvania.
The weather has caused delays in shifting the lanes on the Parkway North.

Among the major projects that will continue this year are:
- Interstate 279 Parkway North improvement in Pittsburgh ($87.94 million)
- Interstate 376 – Airport to Business Loop 376 reconstruction in Allegheny County ($42.36 million)
- Route 51 Elizabeth Bridge rehabilitation in Allegheny County ($31.30 million)
- Freedom Road Upgrade in Beaver County ($19.43 million)
Projects that are expected to begin this year include:
- Route 28 improvement from Russelton to Butler County ($34.34 million)
- Route 2108 Forbes Avenue resurfacing from Birmingham Bridge to Beeler Street in Pittsburgh ($10.19 million)
- Route 18/Old Broad Road improvement in Beaver County (estimated $10-12 million)
- U.S. 422 Benjamin Franklin Highway resurfacing in Lawrence County (estimated $9-12 million)
- Parkway East paving and patching from Fort Pitt Tunnel to the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange in Allegheny County ($18 million-$20 million)
- Parkway East resurfacing and repair from Edgewood/Swissvale interchange to Monroeville
PennDOT officials also reminded motorists to be mindful of safety and highway workers while traveling through construction work zones.
