Pilot, passenger killed in last week’s plane crash outside Grove City

PINE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Both the pilot and passenger died after a single-engine plane crashed near a landfill outside Grove City last week, Channel 11′s news exchange partners at TribLIVE reported Monday.

According to officials with the Federal Aviation Administration, the Cessna T210R crashed around 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 24 and caught fire after going down.

Richard Briggs, 65, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, made a turnaround and a stop at the Clarion County Airport shortly before the crash, TribLIVE learned. His passenger, 55-year-old Keith Vanover of Parma, Ohio, died Saturday at a Pittsburgh hospital.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating what happened.

According to preliminary information released by the FAA, the plane lost oil pressure and engine function before crashing in a wooded area near the TCI landfill in Pine Township, a few miles outside Grove City, TribLIVE reported.
