Person hit by train in Shaler near Route 28

SHALER, Pa. — A person was struck and killed by a train near Route 28 in Shaler.

According to emergency officials, the incident occurred around mile marker 3 of Route 28 northbound near the Millvale exit.

The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Francis Whalen Connelly. It’s not clear why Connelly was on the tracks.

Emergency crews said train traffic has been stopped in the area.
