Some of the vehicles were totaled. Others will require thousands of dollars in repairs.

Neighbors said the driver of the truck, who took off, is lucky to have walked away from the crash. They said the sound of the impact was so loud it woke them up.

“It happened so fast. The noise was gigantic. It sounded like a bomb went off, and that bomb I thought was going off was actually the car tumbling over and going on its roof,” A Rankin resident named Sondra said.

Police were at the scene investigating, but further information about what led to the crash has not been made available.

Police said they have made contact with the driver, who will face charges including hit and run.
