DUQUESNE, Pa. — A pickup truck hit two people, killing one of them, Wednesday morning in Duquesne, police said.
The accident happened just after 6 a.m. at the intersection of Kennywood Boulevard/Route 837 and Hoffman Boulevard. That is near Kennywood amusement park, by the McDonald’s.
Both people hit were adults. They were each taken to area hospitals, where one was pronounced dead and the other was listed in critical condition, police said.
On Friday, the man who died was identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office as 18-year-old Deveon Franklin.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene. It’s unclear whether any charges will be filed.
A driver who was stopped at the traffic light when the accident happened shared with Channel 11 News dash camera video that he gave to police. It showed the truck going through the intersection as the light turned red, hitting the people who had just started to cross the street.
Southbound lanes of Kennywood Boulevard were shut down for several hours. Homicide detectives and collision reconstruction officers are involved in the investigation.
Patrick Kitonis, of Duquesne, regularly walks to work on Kennywood Boulevard.
“It’s real dangerous,” Kitonis said. “Last week, I almost got hit because when I was trying to cross, a lady was flying down the hill and I hurry up and dodged out of the way and then she kept on going.”
Anyone with information about Wednesday’s accident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
