PITCAIRN, Pa. — A neighborhood in Allegheny County has implemented a curfew for kids as summer begins and violence continues to increase in their community.
It boils down to the safety and well-being of kids, Pitcairn Borough officials said.
In a Facebook post, Pitcairn Police said the youth curfew will run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Saturday.

The ordinance does not apply to teens who are working or with adults.
The move comes as the nearby cities of Pittsburgh and Penn Hills have seen their own string of violence involving teens and young adults.

People who live in the borough said the curfew is a great idea, especially as school lets out and more kids will be outside playing and hanging out near downtown.
“The kids around here they like to enjoy themselves, they like to have fun. But we as adults especially the parents—we need to make sure they’re safe out here,” said Pitcairn resident Mark Spirk.

Having measures like the curfew makes a huge difference and adds another layer of security, neighbors said.
“Specifically here in Pitcairn, I think it’ll help. I don’t think there’s too much violence out here anyway, but like I said I don’t think kids should be out too late to begin with,” said Pitcairn resident Michael Roberts.
The curfew is officially in effect.
