PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh City Council is considering a measure that could possibly help neighborhoods like Brookline, where some say that their roads are either left untouched or takes days on end to be cleared after a snowstorm.
The legislation identified almost half a million dollars in Capitol budget funding that would allow the city to buy six new trucks and rent six additional snow plows. Mayor Ed Gainey said Public Works has hired nine more truck drivers and more staff for the rest of the winter season.
“I’ll believe it when I see it. That’s the way things get done around here,” one Brookline resident said.
He told Channel 11 he doesn’t have a lot of hope for this bill.
Duquesne Light is also doing some preparing of its own as freezing rain and icy conditions could be headed our way.
“Ice up to a 1/4 inch or more weighs down the lines and it can bring down the power lines themselves and bring down the tree branches into the power lines,” said Hollie Geitner with Duquesne Light.
