PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh police officer passed away Sunday at the age of 47.

Officer Brian Rowland was a 21-year veteran of the force, working in Zone 6 in the City’s West End.

He died at St. Clair Hospital, according to a news release. Sources told Channel 11 he died of COVID-19.

“I met Brian nearly 22 years ago when we were classmates in the police academy. He was a no-nonsense guy who devoted his entire adult life to protecting and serving the residents of Pittsburgh. Brian was a devoted husband, a huge dog lover, a fitness enthusiast, a friend, and mentor to countless officers. He was always the person you wanted next to you in an emergency. His death leaves a huge void in the police bureau, and he will be missed deeply,” said Commander Cristyn Zett.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
