PITTSBURGH — Administrators are taking caution as threats circulated on social media against Pittsburgh Public Schools.
“In response to recent threats of possible violence against schools shared on social media and as a precautionary measure, we are placing all schools, center programs and early childhood and early head start classrooms on a modified lockdown tomorrow, Friday, December 3, 2021,” the school district said in a statement posted on Facebook.
A modified lockdown means that students will remain inside the building all day and only visitors with a prior appointment are permitted to enter the building.
School police will continue working with local law enforcement to assist in identifying the origin of the threats.
“Please know that we take all threats seriously and that a modified lockdown has been added just as a precautionary measure,” the district stated.
All athletics will be cancelled Friday as well.
Friday is also a half-day for students.
