PITTSBURGH — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidance on Friday for social distancing in school, decreasing it from 6 to 3 feet.
Pittsburgh Public Schools is planning to bring some students back into the classroom starting April 6, and, as of right now, will continue following the 6-foot social distancing guidelines that were originally recommended by the CDC when the COVID-19 pandemic started.

Another group of students will return to in-person learning at the end of next month, and eventually, district leaders plan to bring all students back before the end of the year.
“At this time, the district is going to maintain the 6-feet restrictions just out of an abundance of caution,” said Ebony Pugh, spokesperson for Pittsburgh Public Schools. “It’s also because it’s all of the work. The team has done a lot of work moving, moving out furniture.”
The district also has a plan to update its ventilation systems in the buildings to make sure there’s proper air flow in and out of the schools.
