Ed Gainey gives victory speech in race for Pittsburgh mayor

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburghers voted Tuesday in an historic mayoral race between Rep. Ed Gainey and retired police officer Tony Moreno.

Gainey gave his victory speech as of 10:15 p.m. Moreno gave a concession speech on social media and said he does not plan to run for office again.

Moreno ran as a Democrat in the primary, but lost to Gainey. He then switched his political affiliation so he could run again in the election.

Both candidates voted Tuesday morning -- Moreno at Destiny of Faith Church in the city’s Brighton Heights neighborhood, and Gainey at Paulson Recreation Center in Lincoln-Lemington.
