Pittsburgh’s first cat cafe closing amid COVID-19 pandemic

PITTSBURGH — The first cat cafe in Pittsburgh announced on social media that it’s closing for good.

The Colony Cafe, which is located in the Strip District, posted on Facebook saying, “Like many small businesses, Colony Cafe operated on thin margins, and the state-mandated closure in March proved to be something from which we couldn’t financially recover.”

The cafe is unique to Pittsburgh. It partners with Animal Friends, letting you hang out and get to know adoptable cats.

They’ve been in business for three years and found homes for nearly 350 rescue cats.

Nine cats are still available for adoption. A good Samaritan heard the cafe was closing and prepaid for each of the nine cats. All they need is a home -- no adoption fee.

The cafe said it plans to share more information in the coming days.
