Plan in the works to reopen Ligonier Beach

LIGONIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Officials are working to bring back a popular summer spot in Ligonier Township, according to Channel 11’s news exchange partners at TribLIVE.

The township bought Ligonier Beach in November after the former owners filed for bankruptcy, TribLIVE reported. Several grants were used to buy the swimming pool and restaurant on Route 30.

Township supervisors have hired an architect and appointed a committee to come up with a plan to redevelop the site, according to TribLIVE, but there is no timetable as to when a reopening could happen.

“I think it would be a help to the community if it would stay around, open back up,” Scott Myers, of Ligonier, told Channel 11 News. “It definitely would be a help to the economy around here and, like I said, I'm a history buff, and I'd hate to see the history go away of the place.”

Ligonier Beach sustained damage from flooding and closed in 2018. It had been open for more than 90 years.
