PITTSBURGH — Point Park University students will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to participate in face-to-face classes or campus activities during the 2021-2022 academic year.
Students can apply for a vaccination exemption if they have a valid medical or religious reason, but waiver requests must be received by Aug. 1 for the fall term.
The university said its vaccination policy is “based on the success of the COVID-19 vaccinations now widely available, and to protect the university community from the spread of COVID-19.”
Students are already required to be immunized for other viruses, including measles, mumps, rubella and meningitis.

Faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to get a COVID-19 vaccine, according to Point Park’s website.
Carnegie Mellon, Chatham and Duquesne universities are also requiring students to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
While the University of Pittsburgh is encouraging students to get a COVID-19 vaccine, the school is not making it a requirement.
