Police found a Turtle Creek man shot multiple times in a flipped SUV in Marshall-Shadeland early Friday morning, and he died after being taken to a hospital.
Officers found the upside-down vehicle at 12:21 a.m., according to Public Safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler. They found Dedric Ellis, 48, with several gunshot wounds, although how and where the shooting occurred was not immediately clear.

“We believe it happened several blocks up the street,” Toler said, noting several shell casings were found in that vicinity.
A witness said Ellis was involved in a shootout with another vehicle up the street and then crashed.
"It was a big thump and it sounded like something was coming off the bridge it was very loud and all of a sudden it stopped," said Marcie Kemmler.
Paramedics took Ellis to Allegheny General Hospital in the North Side but he died at 1 a.m.
The fatal shooting happened hours after a shooting several blocks away at Dickson Street and Shadeland Avenue; a man showed up at Allegheny General with a gunshot wound to the arm while police were on the scene.
Police have not said whether the shootings are related and continue to investigate.
