EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio — An East Liverpool, Ohio police officer is recovering after accidentally overdosing during a traffic stop.

, officers tried to pull over a suspicious vehicle. Inside was a Cleveland man who had warrants out for his arrest on drug charges. A police report said while an officer had the man at gunpoint still inside the car, he began using his foot to rub a white powder into the carpet.
Patrolman Chris Green reportedly entered the car to stop the man from destroying the evidence.

Officials reported several piles of white powder throughout the car. Police said the suspects first told them that white power was cocaine, then later admitted it was fentanyl.
WFMJ reports Patrolman Green started feeling sick and dizzy. It was determined during his struggle with the suspect, the fentanyl had gotten onto his skin. Medics already on scene gave the officer Narcan, the life-saving overdose reversal drug.
He is expected to fully recover. Both of the men in the car are initially charged with tampering with evidence. East Liverpool Police said they expect more charges to be filed.
