KENNEDY TWP., Pa. — 12:30 A.M. UPDATE: Police have released new details regarding the confirmed meth lab at a Motel 6 in Kennedy Township.
Officers entered Room 150 at the motel and found a women and her 3-year-old child inside. Police said they immediately noticed a strong chemical smell -- it smelled like meth.
Everything came to a standstill while police worked on obtaining a search warrant. The Allegheny County hazmat team was called to the scene.
The hazmat crew safely removed what was found in the meth lab, so it could be disposed of.
Police evacuated people staying in the rooms near the lab. They were not allowed back inside for several hours.
Police told Channel 11 the woman and her child were not inside the motel when they came back with a warrant. They said they know the location of the suspect, but no arrests have been made at this time.
7:35 P.M. UPDATE: The suspect is a woman, and police believe her three-year-old child was in the room while she was allegedly manufacturing the drugs, Allegheny County Police told Channel 11.
Police are currently searching for the woman.
Police uncovered a possible crystal meth lab at a Motel 6 in Allegheny County Friday.
The drug bust happened in a second-floor room at the Motel 6 in Kennedy Township, police said.
According to Channel 11's Michelle Newell, a BMW is covered in crime tape, and hazmat was called to the scene.
The incident is taking place near a technical school and a storage unit.
It does not appear that the building was evacuated.
