SHALER, Pa. — Many people don’t think dangerous crime could happen in their quiet, safe neighborhood. Two local police departments are now warning families to lock their doors and be aware of their surroundings.

“Extremely safe,” said John Sereno in Aspinwall. “All the neighbors are very friendly, just looking out for one another.”

The recent news of a spike in crime there has some feeling on edge.

“It certainly does raise a few hairs on your neck when you hear about something like that,” said Vadim Gazarov.

Police posted on social media, warning about a rash of thefts from cars and a home break-in.

Shaler police also put an alert out on social media, saying they’ve taken multiple reports of thefts from unlocked cars, two stolen cars from Shaler Highlands Apartments and a third stolen car on Verna Drive.

“You don’t want it to happen to you,” said Gazarov.

Criminals also hit local businesses. Police arrested Daniel Bush after a string of robberies over the weekend.

You’re urged to report anything suspicious to your local police.
