Pregnant teenager shot minutes before car crashed in Allegheny County

EMSWORTH, Pa. — A pregnant teenager who had been shot was a passenger in a car that crashed late Monday night in Allegheny County, police said.

The crash happened about 11:30 p.m. on Route 65 in Emsworth, minutes after the shooting was reported at the intersection of Route 65 and Broad Street in Leetsdale.

Police said the 19-year-old was shot multiple times when someone either drove or walked up to the car, which was being driven by a 20-year-old man.

The driver was not shot, but was hurt when the car crashed.

The teenager was taken to a hospital, where she was listed as being in stable condition. The man was also taken to a hospital for treatment.

A man who lives nearby said he head what sounded like gun shots, but didn’t think anything of it.

“Heard four, what sounded like gunshots or a car backfiring and then two after. I got up. I looked out the window. I was looking around. I didn’t see anything anywhere,” said neighbor Austin Haas.

Investigators said they do not yet know the motive for the shooting.

Detectives are looking for a 2019 silver Kia Optima with PA registration plate LME 4338, with possible damage to the left side of the vehicle.
