PITTSBURGH — President Joe Biden will be in Pittsburgh on Friday, and details of his visit were released Thursday morning.
While Biden and members of his administration are in town, the president will go to Mill 19, a research and development hub in the Hazelwood neighborhood.
The White House announced the visit earlier this week, releasing the following statement:
“On Friday, January 28, the President will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to discuss strengthening the nation’s supply chains, revitalizing American manufacturing, creating good-paying, union jobs, and building a better America, including through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”
Pittsburghers should expect temporary traffic disruptions as the president’s motorcade travels from the Allegheny County Airport to Hazelwood, according to Pittsburgh Police Commander Eric Holmes, who oversees dignitary protection for national and international leaders when they visit the city.
“Drivers should prepare for rolling traffic delays and detours, as well as restricted parking along 2nd Avenue between the Glenwood Bridge and Hazelwood Avenue for the planned event. It is advisable to pack a measure of patience and prepare ahead with an alternative route in mind to minimize travel hurdles,” Holmes said in a statement.
There will be parking and travel interruptions on the following streets:
- Blair Street
- Beehive Street
- Lytle Street
- Eliza Street
- Hazelwood Avenue
Pittsburgh Public Safety announced that “No Parking” signs will be posted, and restrictions will be in place from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday.
Carnegie Mellon University President Farnam Jahanian released the following statement about Biden’s visit to the school’s Mill 19 facility:
“Carnegie Mellon welcomes President Biden to Mill 19 for his address on strengthening the national supply chain and revitalizing American manufacturing. As part of the rich ecosystem at Hazelwood Green – a former steel mill revitalized by public-private partners into a hub for advanced technologies – Mill 19 illuminates Western Pennsylvania’s storied manufacturing history and the power of innovation to create broad-based economic opportunities. We are excited to showcase the work of university researchers and our partners to meet the nation’s critical technology and workforce needs at this moment of tremendous opportunity.”
