PITTSBURGH — Two puppies are safe in Pittsburgh after they were found by a postal carrier in Mississippi.
According to rescue volunteers, the two dogs were found in a box of other puppies that didn’t survive.

“One of them was already dead, and the two others died while on the way to the vet,” a volunteer said. “It’s terribly sad and very traumatic."
“They’ve been through a lot. They are just melting into my arms and they are trying to get all the body heat that they can,” Josh Knauer with FurKid Rescue said.
The group was able to get the dogs and they arrived in Pittsburgh Friday. Their chances of finding a forever home is greater here than down south.
“Western PA is also a place where it’s a very high percentage of dogs that are acquired through adoption. That means we actually have and can support a large influx of dogs from other regions,” Knauer said.
He said adoptions are at an all time high in Pittsburgh.
