DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A deer caused the crash that killed a recent high school graduate.

Damian Bearley, 18, died Saturday when he swerved to avoid a deer and slammed into a tree along Route 982 in Derry Township, according to the Westmoreland County Coroner.

Bearley’s loved ones started a GoFundMe page to cover memorial expenses.

It has already exceeded its fundraising goal of $20,000.

Bearley graduated from Frankin Regional High School earlier this year.

A lover of skateboarding, hockey and working on cars, family and friends are devastated.

A 16 year old girl in the passenger seat was flown to the hospital, but there’s no word on how seriously she was hurt.

Investigators say they believe speed may have played a role and Bearley was not wearing his seatbelt at the time.
