Residents grateful to see parking garage in busy Brookline reopened

PITTSBURGH — Brookline residents and business owners were grateful to see a parking garage reopened in the center of town Monday morning.

“I promptly got in my car and drove right in,” said Marilyn Sullivan.

Sullivan had contacted Channel 11 for help last month, seeking answers after the garage closure went from days to months.

She lives in the Housing Authority’s Mazza Pavilion directly next to the garage on Brookline Boulevard, and like numerous residents there, she relies on the convenient parking. Originally, the Parking Authority indicated the garage would close for a week in September, but then apparently determined more work had to be done.

“This has been three months and 12 days of just constant aggravation,” Sullivan told us.

She and other residents hope to never face another long-term closure again.

The Parking Authority however tells Channel 11 that crews still need to repaint lines in the garage. That project is temperature-dependent and hasn’t been scheduled yet, but should only last a couple of days, officials said.

Officials add that the Housing Authority will be notified of that closure, and as was the case during the first shutdown, garage lease holders will be able to park at any on-street metered space for no additional charge.
