PETERS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — An 83-year-old man was hit by a vehicle Monday morning in Peters Township, officials said.
The accident was reported shortly before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Route 19 and East McMurray Road.

A cane could be seen lying in the middle of the road after the accident, which officials said was not a hit-and-run.
Investigators said the man was walking across Route 19 and made it to the median. He stepped off the median, and a driver swerved but was unable to avoid hitting him.

The man was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for surgery.
Police had northbound lanes of Route 19 closed until shortly after 9:30 a.m.
The driver is not expected to be charged, police said.
