‘Safety investigation’ led to lockdown at North Allegheny Senior High School

WEXFORD, Pa. — A “safety investigation” led to a lockdown Monday morning at North Allegheny Senior High School, according to the North Allegheny School District’s superintendent.

The lockdown was put in place around 10:30 a.m., and was lifted around 11:15 a.m.

A student reported a message written on a bathroom wall suggesting a threat to the safety of the school, according to a communication sent from the district to parents. The McCandless Police Department was contacted immediately and the school was placed on a lockdown.

McCandless police and the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department and K-9 units conducted a search of the school, and the lockdown was lifted.

“We take all threats seriously and will have additional security on the campus of NASH tomorrow (Tuesday, November 23) and Wednesday (November 24) and will search students’ backpacks, bags, purses, etc. at the entrance of the building,” Superintendent Melissa Friez said in the letter to parents. “The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority. We take any threat very seriously and are thankful for the action taken by our student to alert us to this situation. A safe and welcoming school is the responsibility of all of us; we would like to commend the student who shared this information.
