MARS, Pa. — Several kids have experienced a gastrointestinal illness after swimming in a pool in Butler County, according to the Adams Ridge website.

The community has been made aware that up to 8 kids have or are currently experiencing symptoms. Two of those kids have tested positive for C. diff and E. coli. All of the kids swam in the Adams Ridge Pool on May 31.

The pool will be closed through the end of the day June 10.

A full inspection by the Butler County Health Department and the pool maintenance company was performed. The companies took samples of water that were tested for bacteria. The results won’t be available for 48 to 72 hours.

The same bacteria test is performed weekly throughout the summer at the pool and reviewed by a lab. The results of a test done on June 3 showed no trace of bacteria.

Residents should report any health or safety concerns about the pool to Adams Ridge so it can be investigated.

Stephanie Boysel, a parent who lives in neighborhood, said she is now hesitant to take her two kids back to the pool.

“Now that I know that about the pool it’s pretty disturbing I mean with them being so little I’m not sure if we will go back for a little while,” she said. “I think for the whole summer everyone in the neighborhood is going to be a little bit wary.”

She’s also worried more kids may be sick because the pool was packed last Friday and Saturday.

It was on Sunday when the Adams Ridge Home Owners Association alerted the community on Facebook that a child went to the E.R. Thursday and was diagnosed with c. diff after swimming in the pool.
