Severe weather causes damage during Friday night storms

PITTSBURGH — Friday night severe storms moved through Western Pennsylvania causing damage in many communities and knocking out power. Below you will find the latest damage reports as they come in to the Channel 11 newsroom.

10:30 p.m.:

Some areas picked up as much as 1 inch of rain from this story. WPXI Chief Meteorologist Stephen Cropper is looking at the areas that were hardest hit for 11 at 11.

9:50 p.m.: 

According to Duquesne Light thee are now 5,400 customers without power due to this storm.

"Duquesne Light increased staffing in anticipation of the severe weather and all available crews will work through the night to restore power," the company said in a statement.

9:08 p.m.:

An areal flood advisory has been issued for Allegheny, Washington and Westmoreland counties until midnight.

8:50 p.m.:

Duquesne Light reports roughly 3,000 customers without power at this time, mostly located in Beaver County.

Several high school have been forced to suspend or postpone the high school football games.

8:30 p.m.:

The city of Pittsburgh is currently getting hit by these fast-moving storms. In many cases communities are experiencing heavy rain and strong wind for about 20 minutes as a front passes.

8:07 p.m.:

Multiple trees and power lines have been reported down in parts of southern Butler County.
