The owner of Mirror, Mirror Boutique in Wexford said Tuesday was the first time in five years not a single person came through her shop door. She fears being stuck with extra merchandise in stock for the holidays.

“It petrifies me personally that if I don’t make enough in November and December, how am I going to make it in January and February,” Sell said.

She said the next two months will be critical for her business. It’s always her biggest time of year and she plans months in advance to have holiday merchandise on hand.

“My biggest concern is having all of this merchandise left,” Tim Hollihan said.

Hollihan is co-owner of Allison Glen and he has shares Sell’s worries.

“It’s a roller coaster. One day we will have a good day and we’re thinking ‘OK people are coming out.’ And the next day you see a drop off,” he said.

Retailers told Channel 11 they are in survival mode right now, just making rent and preparing for the holidays. Both owners were hopeful they would be able to sell enough to stay in business.
