Humane Animal Rescue said the snakes are healthy and active, but because their brumation space was interrupted, they will be overwintering them until about mid-April. The snakes will be released in time for their mating season.
Dekay’s brown snakes are harmless and grow to about 19 inches, according to Humane Animal Rescue. They primarily eat slugs and earthworms.
