PITTSBURGH — A man who was stabbed early Monday morning inside an apartment building in Pittsburgh’s South Side said his attacker tried to cut his hands and head off, according to police.
Police were called shortly before 1:30 a.m. about the stabbing at Carson Towers on East Carson Street.
Inside an apartment, police found the man with serious cuts to his face, neck and hands. Paramedics took him to a hospital in critical condition.
The man told police that 37-year-old Darrell Darden attacked him with a serrated knife, investigators said.
A woman heard someone screaming for help from the apartment above hers.
Darden was covered in blood, investigators said. He told police he went outside to smoke a cigarette and the other man was hurt when he came back. However, his story changed multiple times.
Police arrested Darden, who was taken to a hospital to be treated for breathing problems, officials said. He was later taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
Darden, of Braddock, is charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
