Pennsylvania State Police are hiding in plain sight, riding on school buses with students to nab drivers breaking the law.
It’s part of Operation Safe Stop, which means troopers are increasing patrols in areas where they see a lot of violations, targeting areas like Hempfield and Unity townships.
“Where maybe it’s a little bit more dangerous for the kids to ride and we’re going to have a police officer in the school bus with a radio and an unmarked vehicle traveling behind the school bus,” said Trooper Steve Limani, with Pennsylvania State Police in Greensburg.
Troopers told Channel 11 violators ignore the arm stop signs, speeding around buses, endangering kids and other drivers.

The results can be deadly.
Just last year, Channel 11 covered a violent accident where a school bus driver was killed in Derry Township because police say a triaxle driver didn’t stop.
Channel 11 has learned one piece of legislation that is gaining support and momentum would put cameras on the school bus arms to help identify drivers who don’t stop.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, bus drivers can also turn you in, by taking down your plate and handing that over to law enforcement.
