NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Students and guests were escorted to their cars and their promenade was shut down at New Castle High School Friday evening after threats were made.
According to the New Castle Police Department, officers received information about a possible threat to students and schools. Investigators said they were able to speak to someone over the phone and it was determined the threats were credible.
New Castle was holding its promenade Friday evening when the threats were reported.
“Due to the credible nature of the threats and proximity of the individual to the school, the school was placed on lockdown,” police reported. After that, students and guests were escorted to their vehicles and the event was shut down.
Police said they have made an arrest in the incident. The individual is in custody and will be placed in the Lawrence County Jail on felony terroristic threat charges.
The NCDP confirmed the person was the only one involved in the threats but has not released the name of the individual.
Prom was allowed to still go on as planned.
