BUTLER, Pa. — State Police in Butler are searching for a suspect who stole hundreds of dollars from a local church.
It happened overnight Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Stoney Hollow Road in Winfield Township.
Police say the intruder got in the church’s office through the side door and stole more than $250 and a check.
Church officials said most of the stolen money is the money collected at Sunday mass which is used to pay for day-to-day operations at the church, to fund the education program and buy books for CCD.
Police say when troopers arrived on scene, the office appeared to be ransacked. Church officials said the burglary had to have happened the between 8:30 p.m. Monday and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Right now, police are collecting evidence and gathering information and the investigation is still ongoing.
