SWAT called for man barricaded inside car on Pittsburgh street

PITTSBURGH — One person is in custody after a barricading himself in a car, causing a SWAT standoff Wednesday morning in Pittsburgh’s Perry South neighborhood.

The incident began on Wilson Avenue around 9 a.m. when officers responsed for a man in a vehicle with a weapon. Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, but it drove off at a low rate of speed.

Stop sticks were deployed and the vehicle pulled over in the 2200 block of Perrysville Avenue. Police blocked the vehicle to prevent the male from driving further, and the SWAT was called when the male barricaded himself in the vehicle.

Negotiators kept constant communications with the male through the driver side window, police said.

Gas was deployed and K-9 officer was used when the male attempted to drive off. He was tased taken into custody around 10:45 a.m.

There were no injuries and medics transported the male to a local hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
