PITTSBURGH — A man accused of making threats toward schools and businesses in West Virginia was arrested after a SWAT situation Tuesday morning in Pittsburgh’s South Side, authorities said.
Police in Wheeling said they were looking for 30-year-old Ryan Cornforth for threatening phone calls, including a bomb threat and the use of lethal force, made Monday morning.
Cornforth used to live in Wheeling but now lives in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh police went to search an apartment on South 19th Street shortly before 2 a.m. after being alerted to Cornforth by West Virginia State Police.
When officers got to the apartment, they heard windows and items inside the apartment being broken, police said.
A SWAT team and negotiators were called in when Cornforth refused to come out of the apartment. SWAT officers gave multiple commands for Cornforth to exit before they went in shortly before 5 a.m., authorities said.
A Taser was used on Cornforth because he became combative, police said. He was then arrested.
Wheeling police said Cornforth is being charged with terroristic threats.
