EAST PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A 16-year-old boy was shot Wednesday morning in East Pittsburgh, prompting a brief lockdown and search of Woodland Hills Jr./Sr. High School, officials said.

The teenager was shot shortly before 6:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Franklin Street. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Neighbors told Channel 11 News the teenager lives with his family on Franklin Street and was walking to a nearby school bus stop when he was shot multiple times.
“Sad. Life is too short, man,” said one neighbor. “He's young, he's a baby.”
The boy's mother spoke to Channel 11, who said her son "is in God's hands" and "the violence must stop."
Witnesses told investigators a young man was seen running from the area after the shooting. Police are looking to speak with that person.
Some neighbors told Channel 11 the shooting was caught on video, which was given to police.

Woodland Hills Superintendent Al Johnson said the high school was placed on lockdown after Allegheny County police expressed concern that the shooter or gun might be in the building.
The school's campus was searched for about 20 minutes, with some police officers using K-9s, but nothing was found.
“We are very proactive about security in our high school. Every student and staff member goes through a metal detector in the morning,” Johnson said. “We are aware there are concerns out in the community and we're doing our best to be aggressively proactive about security at the building.”
Investigators were going door-to-door in the area of the shooting in search of clues and information.
"My prayers are with the family," a neighbor said. "I hope he gets better, you know what I mean? I don't wish that on nobody."
