Three houses destroyed in Hazelwood fire

PITTSBURGH — No injuries were reported, but three houses were destroyed after a vacant house caught fire in Hazelwood early Saturday morning.

Pittsburgh police, fire and EMS responded to the first block of Cust Street around 2:15 a.m., where they found flames coming from an empty home. Heavy smoke and flames shooting from the roof were reported.

The flames then spread to two adjacent homes, both of which were occupied. The fire was reported to be under control in just after two hours.

Three people were able to get out of the homes safely. The Salvation Army will be assisting the displaced residents.

The Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
