When Channel 11 crews got to the scene, police tape surrounded the front of the restaurant -- as the front lobby was severely damaged.
A construction manager told Channel 11 the 18-wheeler lost its brakes, hit the guiderail and slammed into the building. Luckily, the restaurant was closed when the crash happened.
The driver was not injured in the accident, according to investigators.
An engineer is coming in to look at the restaurant for structural purposes. A spokesperson for Primanti Bros. sent Channel 11 the following statement:
“At this time, we’re working with our construction teams and structural engineers to assess the damage. The location will be closed today and will reopen as soon as we’re able to ensure the safety and integrity of all parts of the building.”
