Two arrested in ‘unprovoked’ attack on family leaving restaurant on Pittsburgh’s South Side

PITTSBURGH — Two people have been arrested after police say they attacked a family leaving a restaurant on Pittsburgh’s South Side Sunday evening.

Officers were called to the intersection of East Carson Street and South 18th Street for reports of an assault with injuries around 6:45 p.m.

When they arrived, they found a family of four who had just left a restaurant, who told officers a woman in their group was tackled by another woman, who also grabbed her by the hair.

The victim’s husband tried to intervene, according to investigators, and ended up getting hit in the eye by another man. The victim’s son then jumped in to help. By that time, police had arrived and were able to break it up.

Police arrested Latae Young and Wesley Brown, both 27, of North Versailles. Young was incoherent and highly intoxicated, police said.

Both were taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Police said “the attack appeared to be unprovoked” and there were no weapons found.

This assault follows a violent weekend, with a shooting and a pursuit that ended with a vehicle crashing into a townhouse on the South Side.

The shooting incident occurred on South 13th Street in the South Side Flats around 2 a.m., where a 33-year-old man was found shot three times. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The victim’s sister, Kiki Brown, said it could’ve been worse if not for a Good Samaritan.

“Thank God for the person, the young lady I believe was a nurse, she grabbed a shirt or something and pressed against the wound and stop the bleeding, so if she wouldn’t of done that we would’ve lost him,” she said.

Brown said the the shooting was the result of a bar fight, and an eventual retaliation.
