Two parks vandalized in Westmoreland County community with graffiti, damage

SCOTTDALE, Pa. — Scottdale police are looking for the people accused of vandalizing not one but two parks in town over the weekend. The police chief said his department only became aware of the vandalism because a council member saw a resident’s Facebook post and reported it to his department.

“When you see something like this don’t put it on Facebook right away, call 911. That’s why we have 911. Let the police respond and possibly stop or catch the actors, make them be responsible for their actions,” said chief Barry Pritts.

Vandals targeted two parks on Chestnut Street:

• The Chestnut Street Park where graffiti was sprayed on tables and pavilion posts and
• Loucks Park where the tennis courts were damaged.

“Looked like it was black spray paint, vulgar words written onto the posts and picnic tables,” Pritts said, calling it “senseless destruction.”

The vandalism has since been cleaned up but investigators said they are looking at video from the area. They said they’re fairly confident they’ll be able to track down whoever did this.

“It’s for people’s enjoyment so why the senseless destruction? It makes no sense,” Pritts said.
